Swan Sculpture, Hammonds Pond, Carlilse

The 1st June saw the installation of a pair of stainless steel swans on a former boating lake in Carlilse. The piece, commissioned by “The Friends of Hammonds Pond” was made possible following a donation from park user Ann Clarke. Her bequest also paid for a defibrillator and a walkway.

I met with members of the group some months before and it was agreed that swans would be the best subject for the sculpture. I came up with a few designs and made a maquette the design was agreed.

Carlilse City Council organised the installation which involved an enormous crane (to accommodate the long reach needed). It went like clockwork although the guys wading in the lake did get a bit wet
