NEW WORK 2007Welcome to my latest Newsletter bringing you up to date with my most recent sculptures and commissions. The past couple of years have been pretty hectic and I have made my largest sculpture yet, “The Spirit of Wigan” which stands 10m high (30 feet). This project was fun and exciting to work on and very much involved the local community and schools.
In June 2006 I had a show of new work at the New Academy Gallery, which went extremely well. Making their first appearance ever were some kitesurfers/surfers – as you know much of my work reflects my lifestyle and interests. More recently my work has been focussed very locally with commissions for Preston, Colne and my hometown Clitheroe.
Hope you like my new work. C B
“Spirit of Wigan” 2005 -10 metres & stainless steel Commissioned by Wigan Council and sponsored by totesport for Bryn Roundabout, J25 M6, Wigan. Nine artists were invited to submit ideas for this project. I was one of three chosen by a panel to be put forward to the public vote. This design was chosen and the archway with its three figures represents the strength and optimism of the borough.
“Sprinter” 2006 -4.5 metres & stainless steel
This sculpture represents Mark Lewis Francis taking the gold at Athens 2004 and was commissioned by St Theodore’s School, Burnley. This sculpture marks the opening of major new sports facility in Burnley, built both for use by the Sports College and the General Public. The relay sprinter symbolises teamwork, winning and excellence in Sport. “Trees in a landscape” 2006 - 4 metres & stainless steel
Two trees commissioned by Preston City Council for Friargate Brow, Preston. In the Friargate Brow Sculptures I have tried to make simple yet stylish trees that have a sense of movement and fun. Fluid lines run from the roots, up to the top and back again echoing the flow of life and energy within a living tree. I hope that these give an organic feel to an otherwise ordered cityscape.
“Millie” 2007“- 2 metres & stainless steel Commissioned by Colne in Bloom for the Railway Station, Colne, Lancashire and sponsored by a local business man. This piece represents the women who worked in the cotton mills of Colne.
"Sikka Deer”2007- Life size & stainless steel
